Perfecting the Pitch Series Launches for Early-Stage Startups

AHIA Emory is pleased to announce our 2023 series “Perfecting the Pitch” hosted by AHIA Emory co-founder and Professor of Entrepreneurship Charlie Goetz and in partnership with AfricaBio and Bio Africa Convention.

Professor Goetz will be joined by 3 incredible African-based startups for each session to share their firsthand experience ‘perfecting their pitches’ and growing their healthcare-based businesses.

Managing Director hosts Atlanta-based Global Health Networking Night

Managing Director, Dr. Dirk Schroeder, hosted Atlanta-based students, nonprofits, and industry leaders at his home in Inman Park on April 20, 2023. Attendees participated in networking and an open discussion on how Atlanta organizations might partner together to support global health innovation.

Suna Lumeh, AHIA student participant (2019), shared her story of how the AHIA program impacted her career transition from industry scientist to life science entrepreneur to venture capitalist.

AHIA Attends 5th Annual Bio Africa Convention in Durban, South Africa

AHIA Emory attended the 5th Annual Bio Africa Convention in Durban, South Africa after a 2-year travel hiatus. The multi-disciplinary team of Emory faculty, students, and alumni hosted a 2-day Bioinnovator Basics Workshop for over 100 students (Masters, PhD, and post doctorate) who were interested in innovation. Student attendees represented 10 countries including South Africa, Zimbabwe, Cote D’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Ghana.

AHIA Emory faculty taught a full curriculum to expose students to basic business, law, and fundraising principles:

  • Entrepreneurship 101- Charlie Goetz, Goizueta Business School

  • Intellectual Property Strategy- Nicole Morris, Emory Law School

  • Fundraising Strategy - Dr. Dirk Schroeder, Rollins School of Public Health and Brock Boleman, Executive Director of Mission Hope

  • Technology Transfer Negotiations- Dr. Dennis Liotta, Department of Chemistry and Steve Sencer, Emory General Council
